      Vulnerable Customer Consultant Interview

      17 Apr 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Leigh, North West England, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at First Response Finance (Leigh, North West England, England) in Mar 2026

      Interview

You are put together, competing with others for the role(s), with several activities to do. Unless they are satisfied with how you perform in those activities, or how you project yourself, you won't get to the final stage for an interview. They definitely over-do this, as having great resilience (which I have in spades), and incredible experience counts for nothing. They have missed the chance to have a perfect candidate in myself ! I can see that they wish to mould younger people, and this blinkered approach they use to hire is something they should be a little aware of - humans are all different with their thinking and approach to customer issues - experience by a long way designs your personality and resilience to difficult conversations. Not drawing shapes on a card described by somebody your competing with. Personally it felt a very awkward atmosphere from the off, by the new recruiter and 2 managers present. I noticed a training room opposite containing some of their staff, not looking that happy. From that moment, an hour before I left at lunchtime, I knew this was not for me. You can always tell if an organisation is a happy one. Many reviews have been taken down on here and elsewhere, which is surprising as they did also depict what I am am writing. Curiosity of the job sat me in front of them. I wish them luck. Finally, you had to write several quiz questions about situations that you may be confronted with. And not knowing their own company processes on policies or procedures was very clumsy of them to do this. Overall, it's an overrun poorly designed open day that should cut to the chase instead of fringe assessments that don't really have much weight.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our recruitment process. We appreciate open feedback, even when it is critical, as it helps us reflect and improve. Our assessment days are designed to evaluate a range of capabilities that are relevant to the role, including communication, collaboration, problem‑solving and how candidates approach unfamiliar scenarios. These activities are intended to provide a consistent and fair way for all applicants to demonstrate their skills, alongside their experience and background. Progression to interview is based on meeting the criteria across these exercises within a competitive group setting. We recognise that this approach will not suit everyone, and we understand how the format and environment can feel uncomfortable or impersonal for some candidates. Feedback about atmosphere, structure, and clarity around tasks is taken seriously and shared with our recruitment and hiring teams for review. We would also like to clarify that we are unable to remove or alter reviews once they are published, as these platforms operate independently. We believe transparency is important, and we respect individuals’ rights to share their genuine experiences. We wish you every success in finding a role that aligns with your expectations and working style, and we appreciate the time and effort you put into attending our assessment.
