      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Plano, TX) in Mar 2022

      Interview

I believe the interview process for the Investment Counselor role was a great experience. I was contacted by a 3rd party recruiter. Recruiter started the application process for me. I was contacted by HR to schedule phone interview which was a 45 min call getting to know you and your experience in the industry. Next, I completed a video interview with multiple leaders and HR managers, and at the end was a 10-15 minute mock call discussing market events with common client objections. Prior to the video interview the recruiter scheduled a 45 minute phone call to help prepare for the interview and mock call. In the video interview I noticed something different than what most companies do. It was a 3 hour interview with multiple senior staff. I believe this is beneficial to the interviewee because it allows for a better chance of connecting rather than just having one or two individuals making the hiring decisions. I can’t find any things that I would change through the process I appreciated every step taken all the way up into the offer phone call. Some people connect better in person, but we are in a different environment these days. Advice- practice mock phone call multiple times, study the articles that is given to you by Fisher. Have a good understanding of capital markets. Read the book Debunkery by Ken Fisher. Read Fisher Investment minder articles.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Tampa, FL) in Feb 2026

      Interview

The process started with a typical recruiter call, where we discussed the role, compensation range, relocation, and whether the opportunity made sense based on my background. After that, I met with a manager at the firm. That conversation focused more on my experience, client-facing background, investment knowledge, and how I would handle different market or client scenarios. The mock call portion was difficult. The final step was with a Vice President, who ultimately made the hiring decision. That interview was more detailed and included questions about the markets, inflation, current events, and how I would communicate with clients during uncertain periods. Overall, the process was professional, straightforward, and much more conversational than overly formal. The team was transparent about the role, expectations, and career path.
