Online application, mostly interested in research interests and future work. Required information such as GRE scores (math is the most important component) and undergraduate transcripts. There is a big emphasis on the math course one has had, as well as the grades one achieved in these courses. It is probably more important than the economics courses.

Brief phone interview with prospective adviser. Flown in to interview with department faculty. Easy interview and the faculty sold me on the university. Stayed in hotel payed for by the department. Went to dinner with adviser and other graduate students to talk about research and grad school experience.
