      Medical Scribe Interview

      6 Jun 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Forward (San Francisco, CA) in May 2018

      Interview

There are several typing tests to go through prior to scheduling a phone interview. My interviewer needed to reschedule at the last minute, which was no problem. However, when it came time for the actual phone interview, she had completely forgotten. I sent her an email to check in after a half hour passed by, she asked me if I was available, which I was not at the time and she called me anyways. I needed to scramble to find a quiet place to talk. She proceeded to ask me questions that had NOTHING to do with my medical background, or my experience with medical writing or documenting. Instead, she brought up the fact that they were a startup an inordinate amount of times, and went on to ask me about my knowledge of computer languages. I was beginning to think that she picked up the wrong set of cue cards because they were so off-topic. And of course, like a true startup, the company does not really care about **your** healthcare background despite the facade of it being a healthcare membership platform. All they care about is what new tech you can bring to the startup, regardless of whether or not the position you applied for truly calls for it. I'm not convinced they really understand what a medical scribe is.

      Interview

You have a few interviews, followed with a scribe test where they basically see how good you are at discerning between information you should scribe versus things you should leave out. People are kind and you can tell that they like working at the company.

      Application

      Interview

There was a typing test which acted as a screening test for candidates and then I was contacted by a team member from Forward. We scheduled a talk and the entire time she was amazed by my resume and kept saying "ok awesome". I didn't really think that was professional because it was almost as if she didn't know how to deal with people even though she was the recruiter. I then had an interview with the head manager for the entire scribe team. This interview could not have been more off topic and have nothing to do with the actual role. I was asked where I thought digital healthcare technology was going, why I wanted to work in a healthcare startup, why I cared about healthcare and where I saw myself with the company, and what experience I had working in startups. There was no question about my familiarity with medical vocabulary, my typing speed, my interaction with other people, or how I would contribute to the patient-provider relationship. The interviewer asked the strangest off-topic questions and did not want to speak about any of the skill that are actually required for medical scribes.

Where do you see healthcare technology going in the future
