      Teacher Interview

      19 Apr 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Futures Academy

      Interview

Got a phone interview, and followed by a in person meeting and demonstration. The campus is smaller than I think. Only a few rooms and very few students and teachers. The management staff said they want to keep teachers as few as possible, so teachers must teach more subjects than they think. They seem to care more about how to handle with discipline issue than the quality of teaching. And almost all teachers are part time except you can do the HR job or sales at the same time. Probably teachers would have to get a second job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Basic questions. What is your experience, why would you want to work here. What is the philosophy of teaching

      Teacher Interview

      28 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Newport Beach, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Futures Academy (Newport Beach, CA) in May 2017

      Interview

The interview started out with 3 interviewers (the Director of Enrollment, Director of Student Success and the lead Sciences teacher). They asked me a bit about myself and why I was interested, what my availability was like. After a couple questions, one of them had to leave to attend to their daily tasks, which was reasonable. They asked me about my teaching experience and my approach to teaching. Some of the questions were a bit difficult for me like how to teach someone with ADHD in general. They followed up with some easier questions that were more concrete. They offered me a second interview doing a 15 minute mock lesson to their lead Sciences Teacher on a challenging physics subject (I have a Bachelors in Physics as my highest education). Generally, they seemed kind and open. The Academy's emphasis on 1 on 1, flexible learning styles makes sense to me, but ultimately, they did not offer me the job. It was likely due to my lack of formal experience as a teacher. I initially thought the job was going to be for a tutoring position, but they have 1 on 1 teaching positions as their main teaching approach, kind of like tutoring but with full responsibility of a student's learning, rather than as a supplement or learning help.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

How would you handle teaching someone with attention problems like ADHD?
      Answer question

      Question 2

Are you familiar with differential learning?
      Answer question

      Question 3

Given some material that you have to teach a student, how do you make sure that they can meaningfully internalize it?
