Had a phone interview that went really well and was asked to come in for a 1 on 1 interview with the owner/manager. It was a small place, about an hour and a half from my house, with very little to it (which I actually liked). The interview went really well and he handed me a stack of cards and a pamphlet to familiarize myself with. I took this for what it sounded like and learned the first couple numbers of the serial numbers for each type of card. Each category starts with a certain couple of numbers. I went back in for another interview a week later, that was at 7:30 AM, and he quizzed me on the cards. He wanted me to know way more than I thought I was supposed to. I didn't, and he told me I had no commitment and that he couldn't go any further. I think his expectations are far too high. He is replacing an employee that really worked hard to learn all the serial numbers and what each card said, but she had a year to learn them. I'm not willing to memorize 40+ cards and serial numbers for a job that is not a guarantee. Maybe it's just me, but familiarizing yourself with something versus memorizing are two very different things. I was there for 5 minutes and then had to turn around and go home. I thought he was a really nice guy, but I think his expectations are too high because he is looking for someone to be what the other girl was.
