The day before the interview the recruiter informed me that the interview would be a competency-based interview, and I changed my preparation accordingly.
At the start of the interview, the initiating interviewer had difficulties with using the video call platform and the interviewers didn't do introductions, instead commenting on my overdressed attire and what I was wearing out of frame that can't be seen. This left me with an awkward feeling in my stomach. I got the impression that it was the first time they interviewed someone, but perhaps that was just my perception.
The interview was solely a situational and motivational one, rather than a competency-based one. This discrepancy also impacted my ability to highlight my suitability for the role.
The interview concluded with the interviewers giving me feedback, as prompted. Something strange then happened: I received an email from the recruiter wanting to set up a call "for feedback and next steps". I agreed, even though I was very busy with an exam, so I'm still not sure what the purpose of this follow-up call was.
The first interview (prior to this second one) was very good, however, and was indeed a competency-based interview.
