      IT Program Manager Interview

      26 Dec 2021

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Georgia-Pacific (Woodstock, GA) in Dec 2021

      Interview

I was contacted by a headhunter on LinkedIn regarding a vacant IT Program Manager position with a Fortune 30 company. I later discovered the Fortune 30 company was Georgia-Pacific (“GAPC”) owned by Koch. The headhunter provided limited details on the position, but I was intrigued enough to learn more and shared my resume. Within a day or two of sharing my resume I was contacted by a Koch recruiter who provided more details about the position and asked about my previous relevant work experience. We carried a good conversation for at least 30 minutes ending with the recruiter encouraging me to considering the position and apply formally via Koch’s website, which I eventually did later in the week. The very next day I received a formal request to interview with the same recruiter and scheduled accordingly the following weeks. Because of Covid there was no in-person interview, thus the recruiter set up a phone call to conduct the initial phase of the selection process. This is where things get a went awry. The only question the recruiter asked of me was my salary expectations. I gave him my number, then I proceeded to ask a number of questions regarding the company, culture, and work environment. I was trying to establish whether or not my values aligned with GAPC. At the end of the call the recruiter said he would follow up with me at the end of the week to let me know where I stand in the selection process. I never received that call. After a couple of follow up calls and emails, the recruiter responded via email to schedule the follow up call. We agreed to speak at a particular time that day to which he never called. I emailed and called again, but my attempts for contact were met with radio silence. I was dumbfounded. Weeks later after more attempts to contact the recruiter I received an automated email from Koch stating that my application for the IT Program Manager was no longer being considered. Simply put Koch’s communication with applicants, particularly those under consideration is absolutely horrendous. I attempted one last time to contact the recruiter, but this time I was seeking feedback, and of course I did not receive a response whatsoever. Koch, and GAPC, did not impress me. I will think twice about future opportunities with Koch and any affiliated companies. From a recruitment perspective I expect companies give some consideration to their reputation when sourcing new talent into their organizations, especially in circumstances when candidates are not selected. I’m glad this match did not work out for me and GAPC.
