I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA) in Jan 2013
Interview
Three members of the organization sat down with me. It was very informal. They wanted to know what programming experience I had. For the most part, they just were interested in what part of the lab I wanted to work in (computation, experimental, etc.). The whole process lasted 20 minutes at the most.

Interview
The interview ran 30 minutes. It started with behavioral questions, and was overall a nice experience. They were mostly interested in understanding how I would be able to contribute to the project, It is important to ask questions during the process to understand what role they envision for you.
Straightforward interview questions and overall a smooth interview process. I was invited to a lab setting and interviewed with current lab mates and then the professor/ researcher. I was asked different behavioral questions and technical questions regarding the skills they desired.
It was somewhat challenging. Very fast-paced interview. Lots of questions, but they are manageable. We did a virtual consultation, then we did an in-person interview that also counted as a walkthrough.
