I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gertex (Toronto, ON) in Sept 2024
Interview
The process was smooth and engaging, conducted via Zoom. The initial interview, lasting about 45 minutes, started with a warm introduction from the hiring manager, who shared the company’s mission to create eco-friendly, trend-forward clothing. They emphasized their focus on using organic materials and ethical production, which aligned with my passion for sustainability.
The questions were fairly standard but tailored to the role. They asked, “Why do you want to work with our brand?” and “How do your values align with our sustainable mission?” I shared my enthusiasm for their aesthetic and my experience designing with eco-conscious fabrics at my previous job. They also asked about my process for creating collections, specifically how I balance creativity with commercial appeal. I walked them through a past project where I designed a capsule collection, explaining how I researched trends, sketched concepts, and collaborated with patternmakers to ensure fit and functionality.
The role’s duties, as outlined, included developing seasonal collections, sourcing sustainable fabrics, and working closely with production teams to maintain quality standards. They asked about my proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and CLO 3D, and how I’ve handled tight deadlines. I shared an example of a time I redesigned a garment under a tight timeline to meet a client’s needs, which seemed to resonate.
