I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Google DeepMind (London, England)
Interview
Responded 2 months after submitting application online. First step was a HR screen, second was a 2hr quiz via Google Hangouts. Asked questions from CS, math, ML and statistics. Interviewers were research engineers, who obviously had much more experience with CS terminology, than is required for a comp neuro research scientist position. For some reason, they value an encyclopedic knowledge more than than potential and interest. Not really sure how having a textbook definition of terminology on your finger tips is more important than knowing the general concept, and showing an interest in learning more. So, if you want a job here make sure to memorize several textbooks before applying.

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Google DeepMind (Mountain View, CA) in May 2026
Interview
The interview process was quite smooth. I had two research and two coding interviews. Research interviewers asked what I would like to do at GDM if I join. One of the research interviews was quite confrontational, but respectful. All the interviewers were kind.
7 -9 rounds depending on candidate. The rounds involved 1-3 scientists taking test on leetcode style questions, AI fundamentals, Transformers, Finetuning, Training approach of large models like Gemini, Deepseek etc.
