      Customer Service Advisor Interview

      11 Mar 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Edinburgh, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at HM Revenue and Customs (Edinburgh, Scotland) in Feb 2024

      Interview

The interview process was pretty straightforward and enjoyable. It's all done via pre-recorded questions, so you never interact with a human at any time. It starts off with setting up your webcam and microphone and gives you the opportunity to ensure they are working properly. Next is showing your ID, either a passport, driving license, or whatever other types of ID they request. Afterwards, you are asked an icebreaker question to ease you into the process; in my case, it was "What's something you are currently really interested in?" or something along those lines. This is quite helpful as it eases you in and gets you used to talking to yourself! The main interview consists of four Strength-based questions, which I have roughly listed below. Based on my research, the Civil Service is very fond of the STAR approach. Even though these are Strength-based questions and not competency-based questions, I would add in a small STAR example and reflect on your example too. I would advise you research their Success Profiles stuff so you have a better idea of what to expect. I gave the interview an average rating, as Strength-based questions require a bit more thinking on your feet, and they aren't something you can really prepare for. But hopefully, the questions I listed below will help you :)

      Interview

Pre-recorded questions with 2 mins thinking time and 4 mins response time. Kind of weird. You can prepare in advance as they provide the behaviours being assesed, but specific questions are not given in advance. Prepare multiple STAR examples for each behaviour just in case!
