As a first step, you are asked to complete an online assessments including an apptitude test and gotta record vid responses to 4 questions. Pretty basic behavioral questions.
If you're successful you'll be invited for an in-person or virtual interview with the Hiring Manager and another Senior Manager MV. It was quite reasonable with a very few technical questions and mostly around behavioral check.
Lastly, a round of peer interview with 2 SMs was scheduled and thy ask some technical questions (pretty basic statistics and modeling questions nothing unexpected).
Surprisingly all 3 SMs were with HSBC for over a decade (one 15 and the other 13) at the same position/level (quite unusual). I even asked one dude "how come you're at SM level for that long". He was lil uncomfortable but responded "I like and enjoy what he do" but that was not what I was asking about 😁. One interviewer asked "where I see myself in next 5 years". I said "at a higher level with more advisory role in Model Risk than to do these technical validations". I really think she didn't like my answer as she remained indifferent and sounded like "whatever" 😁.
Overall it was an ok experience but heard back after around 2 months. The hiring manager seems a cool dude.
I think I performed really well and pretty much answered all questions. All I could reconcile is that promotions are extremely rare (at least in HSBC CA) and if you express you're an ambitious person and looking for growth then chances are you won't be selected. But well who knows !!
