I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hammer Prep (San Diego, CA) in Apr 2025
Interview
Started off with a very thorough job application with questions about your knowledge of the company, from there you went on to a video interview and then a final interview person interview with their front office staff and founder. This is where it got weird. The founder showed up to my interview in FLIP FLOPS. Yes, I am not joking! So unprofessional and off putting. He also continually asked me about my experience in high school, which was more than a decade ago as he could see from my resume. Overall, it was a very very strange vibe from him.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Did you use tutors in high school? Did you like your high school years?
I applied through other source. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Hammer Prep (San Diego, CA) in Oct 2013
Interview
Replied to an ad on Reddit/Craigslist looking for an academic tutor in science, math, statistics. First interviewed on phone. They were not specifically seeking education majors, but rather people that specialized or majored in the subjects they were sought for tutoring. After the initial screening, I was brought in for an interview, where I was given several scenarios for dealing with uncooperative teens and students that don't understand a subject vs. those that think they know everything about every subject.

Question 1
I was asked to solve a problem from a text book, and then asked to explain that problem to an uncooperative 17 y/o girl, while the interviewer did their best job to be uncooperative.
