Applied online and got a phone interview. The position was supposed to be at the new Hard Rock Casino in Ottawa. The phone interview was good and I was told that I would be invited for an in-person interview after that. During the interview, I was asked what my rate would be, I quoted the standard hourly DJ rates in Canada. Then I didn't hear back for 2 weeks so I reached out. They said they want they were looking to pay 20/hr and asked me whether I wanted to work for that rate. I rejected that rate, but I shared more information about the current DJ rates in Canada to let them know their offered rate was low.
Having worked as a DJ for almost 10 years, I find this sad and disappointing. It's an art and each set takes a lot of preparation. However, to see the Hard Rock corporate disrespect the profession like this just shows their ignorance. This experience gives me a good idea of the work culture at Hard Rock Ottawa and I'm happy I didn't start working for this sad company.
