      Manager Trainee Interview

      11 Feb 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Calgary, AB
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Harry Rosen (Calgary, AB) in Feb 2020

      Interview

I applied online and got a response within a week. A phone interview was set up with me with HR who is in the main office in Toronto. Interview, in the beginning, wasn't too hard and it did seem a bit casual. We just talked about my previous experience, why I applied at this particular company and how I can apply my skills and knowledge to become an important team member. At the end of all her questions, the lady said that I don't have enough experience for this position (even though I worked as a manager for 2 years, and have 3 years of selling suits, they are looking for a person with 1 or less than a year of experience as a manager and experience in selling clothes). Then after telling me that, I was offered another job that is so much lower in status and in pay that I felt a bit offended, not going to lie... I still told them I will be interested because right now with our economy good luck finding any type of job, so I was sent an e-mail with personality tests. It wasn't too long, took me 15 minutes to finish both of them and then waited for like 3 days to hear an answer.

Thank you for your feedback. Harry Rosen has very high standards. When we bring a new Associate into the organization our goal is to set them up for success by ensuring that their starting role is aligned with their both their skills and their career goals. There are occasions where candidates may feel that they are taking a step back when they join us. This allows the Associate to come in, learn our culture and become comfortable in the environment before moving on to successfully take on more. I'm sorry that this wasn't something that you were prepared to do.
