I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) in Nov 2018
Interview
I was interviewed at a Lab at Harvard to be a Research Assistant. I message them the previous semester and got a response saying they already had all the staff needed but a semester later they contacted me to offer an interview for that new semester. It was for a non-paid position as an Undergraduate Research Assistant. They were really open and clearly explained to me the different lines of research they were doing, I think that what mattered most for them was how many hours people would commit to the role.

Interview
It was fairly standard, a virtual meeting was scheduled and I was asked to introduce myself and my research after which he told me a bit about his own. There were no oddball questions or particularly difficult ones.
Submitted application and was invited for an interview the next day. One video call interview, more like a conversation with two members of the lab. Both were very friendly and interview was enjoyable.

Pretty simple interview process; you meet a PI, find a grad student, and then decide on hours and if there are projects you'd be a good fit to work on.
