      Weekend Dispatcher Interview

      23 Apr 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Roseville, MN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hi-Tech Express (Roseville, MN) in Dec 2013

      Interview

I was contacted via email in regards to my resume that I submitted online by the Vice President/COO of the parent company of Hi-Tech Express. He seemed kind of pushy in his emails about getting interview times set up quickly. I was working a part time cashier job which did not allow me to use my cell phone or provide me email access so I had to communicate with him as I had a chance. I explained this to him but he seemed to disregard my situation. He was adamant he was going to interview people on December 16th & 17th 2013 and hire people for the three jobs he had available by the end of day on December 17th. I arrived at 7:30am on December 17th for my interview. A man let me into the building and I followed him to the offices. The building is locked due to some rules regarding U.S. Customs. I had to ask this guy if he was the VP as he did not introduce himself. It turns out he was so we sat down and proceeded with the interview. He was not very forthcoming with information. The info I did find out regarding how the company operated, the specifics of the available positions, the daily routine etc was given because I asked the questions. The VP was more interested in if I had a five year plan, my personal life, questions about my behavior and details such as if I was married or had children. As far as I am concerned some of his questioning was out of line and the answers are none of his business. The fact that I wasn't being interviewed by someone from HR bothered me as well. Why this guy flew down from Canada to meet with people and not a Human Resources person is unknown to me.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

"Do you have a five year plan?" I told him I did not. The VP's response was "Well you've had eleven months to figure it out. Why don't you have a plan?" It is none of his business what my future plans are. He had no right to give me a hard time about not having a five year plan. All he needed to know about me was how I'd would do the job at hand and my previous experience.
