I had a very negative experience with Homebase’s recruiter. They unprofessionally asked for 3-5 references through AshbyHQ before any interview or assessment, which felt invasive and unnecessary. While I understand requesting references after final interviews, doing so before any meaningful interaction seemed questionable and almost like a scam.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Here’s what we’re looking for: 3-5 professional references. Ideally, this would include at least one direct manager, a peer, and a direct report (if applicable).
I applied online. I interviewed at Homebase (Toronto, ON) in Nov 2025
Interview
Interviewer seemed really uninterested and didn't really dig in during the interview. They asked questions in a very ambiguous way and didn't really pay attention based on the follow ups asked.
I applied online. I interviewed at Homebase (Toronto, ON) in Dec 2024
Interview
Overall, a very disappointing experience. The process involved 5 steps:
Screening
Technical interview (tech questions + coding)
Tech Lead interview
Product manager interview
Director interview
While the interviewers themselves were nice and gave a good impression, it turned out to be misleading. They seem to "shop around" a lot, even if everything feels positive, it doesn’t mean much.
The entire process dragged on for over a month with long gaps between interviews, only to be told in the end that they went with someone “much better.” It felt like a waste of time and effort.
If you're interviewing here, don’t get your hopes up, even if things seem to go well.
