Found ad on Craigslist saying they are looking for a Reporter/Editor for Hometown Weekly. I apply to the ad with my resume and a cover letter. A few days later, I schedule an in-person interview with an editor. I come in and meet with two people. They showed me around the office. It was a good interview. I leave the office, send my thank you note and don't hear anything for a week. A follow up a week later and receive a response back a day later saying that the position I applied for is not available and that they are looking for a couple reporters. I thought I applied for the reporter position so I was confused. But, anyways their editor responded by saying they would like to schedule me to cover a couple events as an audition. I respond back that I would love to do that and told them what my work schedule was. From there, I never heard from again despite two of my emails being ignored. Not sure what went wrong? I had a year experience under my belt. Were they looking for a fresh fresh out of college grad? I would still like to contribute to the paper, but I humbly add constructive criticism that they need to refine their interview process so that they know what position they want to fill and let candidates know of their status accordingly.
