Was contacted by a recruiter who then scheduled a face to face / meet and greet type interview with the founders.
It was entirely my mistake to go ahead with the process. I should have realised that a company which doesn't even schedule a screening or telephonic round before asking for a face to face meeting must be entitled and does not care about the candidates time or resources.
The meeting was held in We Work Bangalore and was extremely shady and weird.
There were just two founders, and one of them had a haughty demeanour. They just asked to introduce myself, my previous work experience and the company I was currently working with. They then began to boast about their product - a cloud based storage, which focuses on "privacy". GROUNDBREAKING.
They didnt even explain their product or their vision in detail. They sounded a bit rude and concluded that I didnt read their "brochure" which they had sent me to read.
Actually, I did research their product quite a lot before coming. Sadly, their home page and all of their literature online is so "try hard" and "shady" that even a person who spent a good 2 hours reading it could not understand how they are different from the existing competitors. Good luck to the future investors.
Finally, they asked me the tech stack I had worked on. Once I told them, they exchanged glances at each other and said something like this : "This person has not worked on CockroachDB, I dont think he could be a good fit". They ended the interview there.
It was funny how two people who had 0 technical background (Yes, I did research both of their backgrounds in detail before coming to meet in person) can somehow conclude that just because a person who has not worked with their precise tech stack would not be a good fit. Why even call a candidate for an in person interview if you are going to do this. There is something known as a Resume, which is meant to be read before inviting someone for an in person interview.
The entire interview and demeanour of the "founders" speaks volumes about the culture and the overall vision of the company. Avoid tiny tech startups with 0 funding,"founders" with 0 technical background, who think they are going to revolutionise the world by copy pasting already existing products like the plague.
