I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IMC Trading (Chicago, IL) in Feb 2026
Interview
I had a perfect match of my resume+portifolio to the JD. But also experience with cloud and latency. The first interviewer was nice and polite during the screening. At the end, he said he was told to ask a trivial tech SQL question (I dare to say it was an irrelevant SQL content assessment tbh, as I had never seen that SQL pattern in prod in years). I guess I had a mental model for a response, and not a streamlined one. He wrote 20% of the keywords from my reponse bc he's not technical. I guess this was totally lost in the translation. The tech manager didn't like it, and the non-technical screener called me in the cold the other day to repeat the tech question. I repeated the explanation, again with an unapologetically technical response. I was dismissed. He was also concerned about the job not being what I expected, although I was clearly excited about the job. Really frustrating. I'm a PWD with a shorter life expectancy, who doesn't do anything else in life other than working hard to get a job that I love. When I find it, it gets thrown away by a flawed interview process. A lot better interview processes with other companies, thankfully.
