I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at JCPenney (Plano, TX) in Mar 2018
Interview
There is an initial phone interview with a recruiter, then 2 more (mine were both within a week) with people in the company that you will most likely be working with. I am not from the DFW area so about a month later they flew me down for a 2 day in person interview session. Day 1: There I was given a tour of the campus and given a test, which asked a series of questions. You can't really study for this, it is more for common sense and problem solving abilities. The test also includes a portion regarding your personality and work style. Just be honest and try your best. Day 2: Interviews similar to speed dating. It is 2 JCP employees and you, asking a series of questions. There is 2-3 (?) rounds of this. As long as you show personality and answer the questions thoroughly it really isn't a bad experience. ALL of the employees I met with during this round were so friendly, which really brought my initial nerves down. Last, you are with a group of 4 prospective interns and you are given a project based on "homework" given prior to final interviews. There are 4 employees who analyze how you work with a team and how well you prepared. This part is really about working together to come up with a great idea to pitch to the employees. Overall, positive experience, and they do a great job of analyzing who you are as a person, without making the tasks overwhelmingly difficult.
