I was referred to the position by an employee working there and applied by emailing my CV. I got a call for giving test. I was asked to do financial analysis of a company and answer questions on the industry and its prospects; growth prospects of the company; profitability; cashflows; asset mix and debt structure; capitalization; and liquidity. I was also asked to suggest ways to improve capital structure i.e. issuing/reducing debt; stocks; preference shares, etc. On clearing the test I was asked for an interview with two senior analysts who asked questions to test basic financial analysis knowledge. On clearing this stage I was asked to meet the CEO for a one-on-one interview at the end of which I was made an offer, which I accepted.
Apart from employee referrals the company mostly relies on graduate directories of the top MBA/BBA programs and calls up the top achievers in Finance with GPA being the major criteria. Majority of analysts are MBA or BBA though some ACCAs/CAs have been hired on applying and on referral basis. The company offers internships to MBA/BBA/ACCA and this is a very good way for entry while the company also utilizes interns on major assignments involving client dealing so it is good exposure. The company will generally offer entry level positions to high performing interns. My advice will be for the interns to take their work seriously and if they intend to continue they should accept the job offer when it is made. There is no guarantee that the offer will stand if the intern returns later particularly if his GPA is below 3.0 or in that region.
