I had a phone interview and about 2 weeks later I was contacted to come in person. The interview was scheduled over a week in advance and I was excited about the role.
I showed up and the hiring manager wasn’t even there. I was interviewed by a group of others (not including the hiring manager of course).
They asked several questions but the interview was not conversational at all until towards the end. They were just firing questions at me and writing them down, not responding at all to my answers and one of the interviewers was on their phone texting and barely paying attention to me during the interview (they later apologized for not being engaged in the beginning).
I thought maybe I’d be scheduled to meet the actual hiring manager at a later date because I figured it would be hard for the hiring manager to decide if they wanted to hire without actually meeting me. Instead, two days after the interview I received a rejection letter.
I believe they had already decided who they wanted to hire before I set foot in the building, hence the hiring manager not even feeling it was important enough to show up or reschedule for a time they could actually be there. So I definitely didn’t feel like I was taken seriously. Overall the whole thing seemed unprofessional and I had to burn a half day of PTO at my current job to go. I would have rathered they just called before the interview and canceled.
