Interviews for Top Jobs at Kaiser Aluminum

Kaiser Aluminum

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Newburgh, IN

Average Interview
Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Kaiser Aluminum (Newburgh, IN)

Interview

Nice recruiter. Had a Teams call with two guys and never heard from them again. Left two voice mails with the recruiter and received no response. It’s been 4 months. I am a senior level technical expert and project manager, and to be treated like I was by Kaiser was extremely insulting. I would recommend people with dignity read my review and ask yourself what company treats candidates like this.

Interview Questions
  • Can you work with people since you are highly experienced with Teams (idiotic question only an idiot would ask)?

Difficult Interview
Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Kaiser Aluminum (City of Spokane Valley, WA) in Feb 2021

Interview

Applied for position through corporate site. After being reviewed my application and credentials were deemed satisfactory enough to move me along in the process. Next steps were basic testing, followed by a discussion with HR to schedule an in person interview. Interview was conducted by a panel, including a plant manager, and HR labor relations manager. Questions for STARS interviews are expected to be answered with complete explanations, providing specific numbers and details to support said answers. While the setting is generally relaxed, it is a very formal interview, and all members will be taking notes individually on every answer you provide. Be sure to bring multiple copies of anything you have included with your application in case they request them, or you want to reference exact dates.

Interview Questions
  • First and foremost, what makes you want to be in management at Kaiser?
  • When leading a team member, give an example of a conflict in which a subordinate pushed back against you, or there was tension within production. How did you handle it? What was the outcome?
  • Tell me/us about a time in which you FAILED as a leader. Did you learn anything? What changes have you made based on that experience?
  • Tell me/us about something you think you’ve accomplished, and it’s positive impact on your ability to lead or manage.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Kaiser Aluminum (Los Angeles, CA) in Dec 2018

Interview

Very unstructured interview onsite and follow-up phone interview with hiring manager and some other personnel. No STAR or behavioral questions. Mostly went over my background and what value I could bring to the organization. Fairly easy and straight forward interview process. Contacted 2 weeks after interviews concluded and provided with an offer.

Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Kaiser Aluminum (Trentwood, WA)

Interview

Phone interview with hiring manager. Days later a round robin interview. Meet all 3 in a conference and proceed to meet each one whereby behavioral questions and possible related skills are discussed. Posting asked for certain skills (posting and hiring manager) said were required, while actual floor manager stated skills were barely used or certain analytical skills were not important. An apparent disconnect between upper management and the floor leading to some confusion for the interviewee. Interviewers polite and professional. Negative review is for unprofessional communication. Hours of interviewing (on-site) and no word back after thank you letters and follow ups. "Ghosting" as it is called with no rejection or acceptance after days of preparation and research on the company for the interview.

Nice and easy interview. The Interview was genuinely more interested in knowing that I would be a great fit, rather than just bombarding me with difficult questions. He was very interested in my work ethic and getting a feel for my demeanor.
