      Software QA Engineer Interview

      30 Jun 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Oakville, ON
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at KingswaySoft (Oakville, ON) in Jun 2026

      Interview

Went through the full interview process for this role, which included an initial phone screen where salary expectations were discussed. At that stage, I provided a range of $70–80k based on my experience and market expectations. After progressing through additional interviews and reference checks, I received an offer that was only slightly below my stated range ($65k). I was still very interested in the role given its proximity and alignment with my experience, so I responded with a polite message asking whether there was any flexibility on compensation or additional benefits such as vacation days. I did not receive a counteroffer or further negotiation. Instead, the offer was withdrawn entirely. The interview process itself was standard. However, candidates should be aware that compensation appears to be effectively non-negotiable at the offer stage. Even a modest, professional attempt to negotiate may result in the offer being rescinded without further conversation. Note: Although salary range is asked early at the phone screen stage, the actual offer amount is only revealed at the very end of the process, and it may come in below the range discussed. I would strongly advise candidates to assume the initial offer is final before responding.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We appreciate feedback from all candidates, even when they ultimately do not join our team. At KingswaySoft, we invest significant time and effort into every hiring process because our goal is to build long-term relationships with team members rather than simply fill a position. Throughout our interviews, we strive to evaluate not only technical qualifications but also whether there is a strong mutual fit in terms of expectations, career goals, and long-term success. We would like to clarify one important point. Our decision was not based simply on the fact that compensation or benefits were discussed. We recognize that candidates may have questions or wish to discuss aspects of an offer. Rather, these conversations sometimes reveal that there is a meaningful gap between a candidate's expectations and what we believe is appropriate and sustainable for the role. When we reach that conclusion, we believe it is in the best interest of both parties to conclude the hiring process rather than begin an employment relationship that is unlikely to meet the expectations of either side. Regarding compensation, we ask candidates about their expectations early in the process to determine whether there is a reasonable basis to continue. The final offer, however, is made only after the interview process has been completed and reflects our comprehensive evaluation of the candidate. As a result, the final offer may differ from an initial salary discussion. Finally, while we respect every individual's right to share their interview experience, we also believe that private employment discussions - including detailed compensation negotiations and hiring communications - are best handled with a degree of professional discretion and mutual respect. We strive to extend that same professionalism to every candidate throughout our hiring process. We sincerely appreciate your interest in KingswaySoft and wish you every success in your future career.
