      Interview

Applied online, went over basic details about my resume and the position with the recruiter, and setup an initial behavioral interview with the hiring manager. The behavioral interview started off standard, going over the company, team, role, etc. The HM asked four questions (I did not sign an NDA): 1. What are you looking for in your next role, manager, and company. 2. What was something you recently broke. 3. (Not exact wording) Tell me a bout a time you had to communicate, and what was both good and bad about said communication. 4. Tell me about a technical challenge you faced. Spent the last 5-10 minutes asking questions. Almost verbatim the, HM would for each question, go: HM: "Are you ready for the next question?" HM: "" ME: My answer ... HM: "Thanks for sharing that with me, I appreciate that." HM: "" HM: "Does that sound right?" ME: "Yes/No/Add some follow up details." Repeat... Overall the interviewer was respectful and attentive, but if anything, on the disinterested side. The structure of the interview was fine, but there was virtually no back and forth or follow up questions -- very contrived and robotic. Like they could have been substituted by an AI or a questionnaire instead. Got timely feedback in the next couple of days, and was rejected. Recruiter provided (appreciated) feedback that I "did not go into depth" with some/all of my answers. Maybe my answers were not great. Certainly possible. But personally, I think (good) interviewers should help the interviewee fill in gaps with at least some level follow ups.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Klaviyo (New York, NY) in Aug 2022

      Interview

I applied for a more senior position one weekend. The following Monday, a recruiter asked if I'd be available for an interview. During the conversation, we could both tell I wasn't qualified for the senior position, so rather than ending the interview early, he looked at other open roles that might fit and we found one. Then I had an interview with the team manager and he was very prepared and gave me a clear outline of how the interview would be held. The questions were standardized for the role but well thought out. The same day, my recruiter invited me to schedule a technical interview as the next round. After scheduling it, the email advised exactly what to expect and how to prepare. During the technical interview, the team members were also well prepared and the technology ran smoothly. I did not get moved to the final round but was very satisfied with the interview experience.
