I had 8 rounds of interviews, the last round being interviews with 2 VPs, I guess that was because there were 2 teams interested in my profile. There were 2 technical rounds, 1 round with 2 team managers.
After the interviews with the VPs where one of the VPs asked what I was going to bring to the team and then tried to lowball me by saying he didn’t think I was a senior engineer (I’ve got 7 years experience) and that he had other candidates in the pipeline that would take far less than what I was asking for and also it would be unfair on the rest of the team if he gave me that. They sent a rejection email after that.
I’m not upset at the rejection - it’s normal if you can’t afford a candidate or if the candidate doesn’t do well, I’m however upset at the lowballing and trivialization of my experience, also at the waste of my time. I had communicated my expectations to the recruiter at the very first call, and again midway through the process I asked the recruiter if they knew what my expectations were and she “yes, the managers think they can do it” only to get lowballed by both VPs at the final round and get rejected.
I really wished they hadn’t wasted my time.
PS. I reached out to some engineers on the teams I was interviewing to join - let’s say they’re looking to leave and would do so in a heartbeat if they got a new job so it feels like a bullet dodged for me.
