      Assistant Store Manager Operations Interview

      23 Mar 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at L.L. Bean in Mar 2017

      Interview

Unprofessional and awful experience with the Lead Recruiter. I applied online, got a rejection letter within 24 hours, then was recruited online personally by the Lead Recruiter within a week of that. Because I was excited about the position because my skill set lined up extremely well, I actually responded and set up a phone interview. Spent a lot of time prepping: read Leon Gorman's book, came up with 1-2 examples for each bullet point on the job description, researched all corporate interview questions on glassdoor.com and brushed up on generic interview questions. This was not an issue of being under prepared. To start off, the Lead Recruiter was over 10 minutes late to the call. I gave her two and a half days of open time, she chose the time to call me and still couldn't manage to be on time. Her first question was about my first job. She didn't even bother to get to know me or work into the interview with any sort of conversation. The entire interview which lasted over 40 minutes focused on two lines out of the three page job description. When I tried to vary the companies in my work history in my answers, she stopped me and said she only wanted an example from a specific company--which wasn't even the most relevant one to the role I was interviewing for. She clearly didn't even bother to read the time line of my resume because twice she asked why I went from working for Company A to Company B, but in reality I worked for Company B first THEN went to Company A. I had heard lot of negative feedback from people that work at L.L.Bean and then read the reviews on glassdoor.com--clearly the negative feedback is spot on. If you are a recruiter, especially the LEAD recruiter, you should give a MUCH better first impression of the company to external candidates.
