Having an "in" with the company can be helpful. Management tends to put a lot of trust in employee recommendations. At the interview, I met with the current Executive Director for a bulk of the interview. After a while the person who was slated to be my "Team Leader" (if I got the job) invited into the room to ask questions and observe. Due to the specific job I was looking to obtain (PAS Agent) I received a second interview with the other team leader who oversees that portion of the programming. This was significantly less formal and was held at a Starbucks, relatively close to where I live.
