A nice person contacted me for a screening interview. They spoke about having me meet other people within the company in a very casual way and didn’t describe it as an interview. When I met the next person, it had a very formal feel and was clearly an interview, which I felt was unfair given I hadn’t been told to prepare taking them through my portfolio. It hadn’t gone well so I didn’t expect to hear anything, yet the recruiter insisted on meeting me for a zoom call to tell me they couldn’t hire someone so junior, even though they had told me repeatedly at the first stage they were all about it. I think companies should be transparent about what’s expected at the different stages of interviews, especially when hiring for graduate positions.
