Interviewed for a mid-level engineering management position. Initial phone screens with recruiter and hiring manager. Needed to provide references and college transcripts early in the process (this was 10+ years after finishing school). Traveled to Lutron HQ for a fairly intense, full day of interviews, across a wide variety of levels. The process included group interviews with engineers, mostly technical, focused on working through specific problems/projects. Interviews with mid-level managers also included a lot of role-playing, hypothetical situations. Senior managers probed into personality traits and performed some word association exercises. Final step was another full-day in-person interview on the site where the job would be located. Again, was very intense and included interviews at all levels. Some involved very specific technical challenges, with the interviewers checking to see if you could come to the correct conclusion. Senior managers were checking more for leadership style and cultural fit. Overall interview process was highly structured and interviewers were clearly sharing notes between sessions. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and committed to the company. Overall process was the most intense I have ever experienced. It made me believe that Lutron is a well-run, tightly-managed company that asks a lot of its employees, but is also fair and direct, and gives plenty of opportunities to high performers.
