      Interview

screening call with talent acquisition to go over what perks come with the position. Next was a take home coding challenge. Nothing too difficult, probably Leetcode medium level. After a successful submission, there is an interview with managers and then a technical interview with developers.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Magnet Forensics (Waterloo, ON) in Mar 2021

      Interview

It was a bit lengthy process, however, they were pretty accommodating. I applied via Glassdoor and received a call in couple of days with a recruiter. Generic chat about background, what I am looking for and what interests me the most about Magnet. After that, I had a technical screening interview with one of the developer on the team. It was pretty good. Normal leetcode easy-medium problem about shortening file path . Interviewer was a developer, at first he introduced himself and the work he is doing, then we jumped to problem solving. After successful screening, the next round was with 2 people from upper management. 1 was Hiring Manager and other was Director of Engineering. It was 1 hour long discussion about why Magnet, and followed by some behavioral questions like tell me about a time you had a conflict/received a negative feedback, working with a rockstar developer, etc. They introduced themselves and also gave a quick overview of Magnet's products and architecture and where do they see me fitting in. After that, I was invited for a 1.5 hour long technical interview with developers from multiple teams. It was an object oriented design level question (file system wrapper) followed by implementing your own API function in a bit detail. It was also Leetcode Medium-ish problem. Was able to solve in the timeframe. Following that, we had discussion about what are they working on and other questions I had to ask them. Was indeed great to have that opportunity to ask questions. They were always frank and responsive. After this point, it was clear that the team really liked me and I also liked them. So, the second-last interview was scheduled with Hiring Manager and the Director of Engg. This was sort of open chat about the role and team and expectations. I asked them lots of clarifying questions for over 1 hour and they listened to it passionately and answered with full-details. Quite satisfying experience. On the same day, I had received an offer from another company, so I told them to expedite the process. As I mentioned earlier, they were super accommodating with me, so they immediately took a decision and presented an offer as well as a chance to talk with VP of engineering (seems like they have this well-maintained culture where every new hire gets a chance to talk with VP and CTO/founder). Since the other offer sounded better to me, I politely rejected the offer from Magnet. Must say, for me, this was a good experience of interviewing at mid-tier size company. Better than other companies in the region.
