A recruiter with the company reached out to me and offered the opportunity to interview, so I took them up on it to see where it would lead.
The phone screen went well and I initially felt good about moving forward, so I did. I eventually had an online coding interview with an engineer there and was tasked with solving a pretty trivial problem using React.
However, the interviewer did not seem well prepared as they didn’t introduce themselves and also admitted they never looked at my resume. I brushed it off though and got down to coding since they seemed to be in a hurry. As I worked through the problem, the interviewer would constantly interject every time I stopped typing to think what to do next, so that was somewhat distracting. Not to mention their slack notifications sounding off in the background.
Nonetheless, I solved the problem in the time allowed with a few minutes to spare, so we chatted a bit about the tech at the company. In the end, I felt confident I met expectations, so I was surprised to find out that I did not and would not be moving forward in the interview process.
I guess you could say their expectations in a 30-45 minute interview were a little high.
