      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at MassMutual in Dec 2019

      Interview

I applied online in late 2019 and was contacted within a couple weeks by HR. I had an initial HR screen, and then another phone screen with another HR. They said they would get back to me within a week to set up the next interview with the hiring manager. After following up with both contacts with no reply, I moved on to other opportunities. I recently received a standard rejection email from MM that said I was no longer being considered for the role. I'm not unreasonable in understanding there are many qualified candidates for competitive roles. However, the lack of promised follow-up, and a system-generated email 3 months later left me with a very unpleasant impression just based on the recruiting process.

      Interview

I had one interview with a Director (my one and only interview in the process). The recruiter reached out me to schedule the meeting, and everything during this stage was very prompt and professional. However, that is about where the good things end. I was highly prepared for this interview, to say the least. I felt my skillset matched very well with the job description, and I still do, even after the interview. However, from the second I got on the video call to speak with the Director, I immediately felt like he was closed off and unreceptive to anything I told him. Rather than being conversational, it felt very much like a robotic process of someone spewing out a series of pre-written questions. I honestly have no idea if he even heard anything I said, as it almost seemed like he was just waiting to ask the next question on his list. When I'm finally allowed to ask a question at the end of my interview, I ask him what on my resume had stood out to him to bring me in for an interview. He said it was something about my cyber experience and was hoping I had dealt with fraud events during my time, as that is what he was hoping for someone to bring into this position. Mind you, I did not write anything about fraud in my resume, and he did not mention anything about it until the end, making it so that I had no opportunity to relate my experiences to what he was most interested in. It felt highly unfair and unreasonable. If that's what you want in a candidate that is interviewing for that position, PUT IT IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION. If I had known what they were really looking for going into this, I could have better prepared myself (or, better yet, maybe not wasted my time?). I usually walk out of interviews feeling okay, even when I KNOW I did poorly, but this was something else. I felt like my time, efforts, and conversation were greatly unappreciated -- like I was taking up his time and interrupting his day even though they are the ones that wanted to schedule the interview! I felt awful leaving that interview. And even after that, I have not received a single communication back (although I have sent a couple to thank them and ask for status). I do not expect I will ever hear a definitive answer from them :)
