The hiring process seems to be a little different depending on the needs of the lab. Over all it is a fairly standard interview process in which they ask behavioral interview questions, followed up with talking about the science of the lab.

Some times in research we deal with difficult (egotistical) people. Tell me how you deal with these people.
Straightforward and professional. Had many different interviews and have had 4 Research Technologist lab in the past 6 years. They can vary between short and simple, with no follow up interviews, to long panel type interview with multiple follow up interviews.

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) in Nov 2023
Interview
Very organized. Supervisor and PI joined the first interview in conference room. Lasted 1 hour, and was treated kindly with no red flags. Had second interview which lasted 30 mins with PI only. Was internal hire and HR connect made it easy to transition.

What the most challenging thing you’ve faced either professionally or personally(of which your comfortable sharing) and how did you deal with it?
My interview at Mayo Clinic was very run of the mill and included your typical situational questions. It was a panel of 3 people and I was very impressed with the professionalism. No gimmicks or games. Clear communication through the post interview process.
