      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at MetaLab (Toronto, ON) in Jul 2023

      Interview

Fist interview was very nice, I had the fist interview almost two months ago, the recruiter was very kind and told me everything about the company and the roll, they sent me a design challenge with a 2 weeks deadline (they said they paid for the challenge) I’ve sent the challenge and they ghosted me, didn’t get any feedback, or comment telling me anything, I was expecting even a “no thanks” message, also I didn’t get paid, and I don’t know what happened with the process. I’ve expected a lot from this company.

      Product Designer Interview

      5 Mar 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Victoria, BC
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at MetaLab (Victoria, BC) in Jul 2019

      Interview

Overall the interview process was unlike any other I've been a part of. MetaLab has quite the reputation for being a difficult company to get hired by, with high standards, daunting tests and a walled-off culture all part of their mythos. Surprisingly however the thing that doesn't get talked about is how encouraging they are! Yes, there are a series of tests and yes, they take a long time to slowly progress through. Every single time I came in contact with a human, whether an HR person or a design director that I was presenting to, I was taken aback by how friendly, warm and personable everyone was. Despite being turned down initially for the role after working my way through, I felt as though I had people fighting to get me hired and it was a really memorable journey— one where I came out feeling better DESPITE not getting the job!
