Two people from Mihama contacted me for the Data Entry Specialist position. I thought it was kind of scammy, they told me to download an app for chrome on the spot and they gave me a link. It was an app that barely had likes and a small number of downloads, it was not a well-known app and looked extremely sketchy. It also didn't look it was made by Mihama either.
Because it was during the interview and they were talking to me, I felt very pressured to just do it or else they wouldn't hire me. So I downloaded the app. They made me to some simple repetitive tasks which was mostly just copying and pasting people's emails from a list they had for an entire hour while the interviewers did their own work - and I also had to share my screen and camera during the interview as well and they didn't share their cameras at all.
It was the strangest interview because it was harvesting people's contact information from their social media such as their LinkedIn and Facebook profiles. After the interview they showered me with compliments, praising me for how fast I was and how I was the best candidate they ever had.
After the interview, I quickly uninstalled the app and ran a virus scan. My computer was riddled with viruses from this strange app, to the point where I decided just to wipe my hard-drive. I have all my important banking and government info on my computer, so I figured it wasn't worth chancing it especially with all the scams going on in 2021...
I sent them a thank you message for the interview and waited for a follow-up. 2 weeks of waiting and getting ghosted later I contacted them again. The interviewer then gave me a copy-and-pasted generic rejection email and that was it, promising to keep me in mind for their future openings (they never did). Don't download strange apps!
