I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mix (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2018
Interview
If you like having your time wasted you should apply here,. The interview process is the worst I’ve experienced. It took two months to get a decision on my application. This was after many rounds of interviews; initial hr screen, talk with engineering manager, talk with senior developer, take home code test, and a round of remote interviews. The final step was to go meet leadership onsite in SF, which I did not qualify for. They are not considerate or empathetic to your schedule or timelines.
I had a competing offer. I told HR about this and asked to speed things up while I had a screen scheduled with the senior dev. I didn’t even get a response from HR at that point. I eventually had to reach out to the engineering director to get a response.
After my last round they decided they did not want to make a full time offer, but wanted to try me out as a contractor. I said no. Why would I give them the benefit of the doubt if they couldn’t? How would you feel if you interviewed two months for a full time position only to find out that its contract?
I’m ok with the fact that I didn’t meet their qualifications, but I don’t appreciate having my time wasted and how they treat potential candidates.
If I recall correctly, it was delayed due to some desire on your part to potentially pursue another offer. We are a small team and try our best to communicate quickly with applicants so I apologize if the experience was unsatisfactory.
As to why we offered the contract role, we felt there were gaps in your knowledge and since you'd had a lot of experience as a contractor and we liked your attitude and demeanor, we thought it would have been an opportunity to work with you and learn more about your abilities.
We ultimately did find someone for the role that displayed the abilities and attitude we strive to hire here at Mix, but thanks for applying and giving your feedback.
