Recruiter reached out a few times with a few different positions on LinkedIn. Replied everytime but got no response for about 3 months. Finally got an interview and it was not pleasant, panel and personal interviews for multiple hours where they tore every bit of my experience to shreds in a grueling fashion. I understand the need to grill people but no one has the exact experience in your products and can answer detailed questions on them unless they already work for you. I pushed that the experience I did have was with similar products in the same industry and which have a huge amount of overlap with their products but are not identical. Afterwards I started questioning whether I was comfortable working with people like this but kept it positive with the recruiter. Offer came in a few weeks later a little under what was expected and with much worse benefits (PTO is very bad with no sick time and 401k is pretty bad for younger engineers). Discussed my concerns and was told this is the absolute best offer they could give. I declined the next day and the recruiter called asking why. I reminded him he stated they could not negotiate and that the offer was simply inadequate. A week later a slightly better offer came in but at this point I felt the company was just being too hostile. The interview was ridiculously rough and then they refused to negotiate without me walking away, for this they've lost my trust and I'd prefer take a pay cut then work with people I cant trust.
