I was invited for an in-person interview after submitting an application online. It was a panel interview of 5 people. The drive to the interview location was some distance from my home and on a highway with construction, so I gave myself plenty of time. Too much time, as I ended up arriving 45 minutes early. Since it was 80+ degree day and my auto A/C is not powerful enough to keep me cool in a formal suit, I made the *wrong* decision to go into the building and wait in the lobby. The bubbly receptionist recognized me as the next interviewee and got up informed the hiring committee that I had arrived. Although her intentions was to be kind (i hope) and did I request of her not to mind my presence until my appointment time...I believed the whole incident ticked off some of the interviewing staff. The staff member to my immediate left seemed to be irritated by my presence during the interview (frowns, audible snorts) and the seating arrangement during the panel was uncomfortably close. My anxiety kicked in to such high gear, I started to shake....words were just running out my mouth...it was one of the worst interviews of my entire life.
