      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Motiv Electric Trucks in Oct 2024

      Interview

Only writing this since the last review of interviews for this company was in 2021 - which made it difficult to know how things are a few years later, if things had changed, better, worse, etc. I would guess things have not changed for the better. It was nearly seven weeks from when Motiv reached out to schedule an interview to when Motiv emailed that they chose not to move forward with me. During those seven weeks I had seven interviews. with seven separate people. on seven separate days. I'm assuming the intention was to have four of them back-to-back in one day - which would have been so much better. But that's not how it was done. The interviews were lovely, very conversational, I enjoyed the conversations, and I would have enjoyed working with the people I met with. Their product is super interesting, and their manufacturing process was super fun to think about, I started mapping out the process flow because it was different from the automotive one I was familiar with. I obviously can't speak to the work environment, but various people described it as chaos, the wild west, no rules, or that rules are not followed. Take that to mean what you will. So the interviews were great. The work environment.... maybe not ideal. After six interviews, you are emailed an update – they will be meeting on X date to discuss, do you have any pending offers, and to please let them know if you get one before they reach back out to you. The last interview (the seventh) is titled Culture Fit - during which they cover benefits. While this might seem like a formality, it is not. But it is another half hour interview, on a different day. That you have prepared for, researching what you might be asked in a Culture Fit interview, figuring out what culture related questions you want to ask. 7 separate 30-minute interviews, on seven different days, over the span of seven weeks is exhausting - it ends up becoming seven different days where you as the candidate adjust your schedule to prioritize the interviews, and then change your schedule when an interviewer cannot make the original date/time. Seven different days, seven different weeks of reviewing the job req, reviewing your interview notes, researching further about the company to ensure you are as prepared as possible. By the time the email comes in that you aren’t selected…. You are just grateful the whole tedious exhausting process is done. But it's not really done - a week after they send the rejection email, you get an email to review the interview process. So now it’s eight weeks of thinking about Motiv. It's like a bad date that won't go away. Please, just stop.
