I was working for the company full time with previous leadership experience already. After raising concerns that I was reporting to a daytime supervisor who was incapable of providing adequate support because we never really saw each other, they decided to create a supervisor position for the night crew.
The initial job posting said nothing about having 5 years of drayage experience. I met every minimum requirement in the original job posting. After applying, they scheduled me for an interview. First it was a phone screen with my direct manager (senior manager in drayage) and then a series of 5 interviews with VP’s and other senior managers in office.
I used Uber to commute to and from work. $15 both ways. After interviewing for the promotion, I was told by HR that the only feedback the management team had was that I did an amazing job but they wanted someone with at least 5 years of experience (which wasn’t posted in the original job posting) and the daytime supervisors didn’t even have 5 years of experience (or resumes that are remotely close to mine in terms of leadership experience).
Later on, in a meeting with HR and my Senior Manager, I was told that they were NEVER going to give me the position anyway and let me interview for the experience—causing a poor minority from south LA to spend $30 I don’t have and waste time that I could have spent sleeping on a mock interview even though I’m more qualified than the current supervising team...AND the interview questions were a joke. Leadership didn’t seem to care to take it seriously.. even though I gave them a resume, letter of qualifications and a cover letter in a nice folder.
