Question 1
Why did I design certain aspects of the code that way and not another.
The interview process was not efficient. There were two rounds. The first round was an online meeting with other research software engineers and HR regarding my experience. This took about an hour. The second round was composed of two interviews. One is for the expertise area (e.g., sciences). For this one, they asked for a presentation. Then, there is a software engineering interview. We could not start on time for the first interview due to technical issues in the office. These should've been checked ahead of time. The second interview was also over time. In the end, I was rejected due to the software engineering part. If this was so important to the employer, this should've been tested first, potentially with an online interview to decrease the costs. Thus, the employer could be more thoughtful of the candidate's time. Also from the application to the final moment it took a couple of months.
I applied online. I interviewed at Netherlands eScience Center
Interview
First round interview with HR, second round a 20 minute talk, a chat about some of your own code, and another HR interview, back to back. Few weeks waiting for the answer.
