I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at New York Times in Aug 2022
Interview
First there was a screening with the recruiter. Then, an interview with the hiring manage. After that, there were 4 interviews with two people on each interview, one on system design, one coding challenge, one culture, and one values.

Question 1
Build a component that would be used in one of their main applications, and handle edge cases.
The interviews were okay. A live-coding session and a system design interview. However, the communication process with the recruiting team was terrible.
1. I set up a call with a recruiter for a phone screen, but they never called. It took weeks of emailing for a follow-up to finally hear back.
2. Before the final round, I was told that I'll first have a chat with a recruiter who will provide background on the final interview round and what to expect. I had to email the recruiter multiple times before hearing back to set this up. In the end she set up a last minute call the same day the final round was scheduled for, not giving me any time to prepare.
3. After the final round, I never heard back from anyone.
Overall, the process was unnecessarily stressful because of the extremely poor communication with the recruiting team.
