      Virtual Health Coach (Entry) Interview

      9 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Portland, OR
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Noom (Portland, OR) in Dec 2018

      Interview

I submitted a resume and cover letter, and was then asked to submit a 1 minute video detailing my interest in the job and describing myself. An hour after submitting the video, I was asked to complete a real-time video interview and mock coaching session. I was scheduled to do the real-time interview two weeks after submitting the 1 minute intro video. The day of the interview, I prepared as I would for any other interview, and dressed the part. The interviewer who interviewed me was in what appeared to be their childhood bedroom, wearing sweatpants, with messy hair. They asked me three questions: "Why do you want to work at Noom?"; Why do you want to work virtually?"; and "Whoa, you know MI?" (meaning Motivational Interviewing). Then we moved on to the mock coaching session, which was utterly confusing. The interviewer, who appeared to be maybe 22, was pretending to be a 45 year old who wanted to lose 50 pounds. They engaged with me at times familiarly, and other times as though we were interacting for the first time. This went on for an hour before the interviewer said "that's enough for today." The next day, I got an email saying that the company was moving forward with other candidates. I'm fine with losing out on a job, but it's a real struggle when I've got almost two decades of experience and I'm interviewed by someone who can't take the time to clean their bedroom or put on something other than a hoodie before interviewing me. The entire experience was a let-down, and although I've recommended the company to many people over the years, I'll no longer do so, as I'm now aware of how things are run at Noom.
