I was contacted via phone and asked to complete a video interview by the end of the business day, giving me approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete my video submissions. It was a little stressful and rather difficult, but I finished it just in time. About thirty minutes later I got a call asking to schedule a Zoom interview, to which I agreed and a time was set. About 45 minutes before the start of the interview, I realized that I had no idea what kind of job I was applying for. The site on which I applied (ZipRecruiter) had an incredibly vague description that didn't really tell me what I was going to be doing, or how I would be compensated. So, I sent the HR representative, Angela an email, asking some very basic questions: 1) The job listing was a bit vague as to the EXACT job title--what is it? 2) What are the (general) outlines? I know we'll probably be talking about that in detail today during the interview, but just generally: is it a receptionist job? Sales? Office management? Something else? 3) Is this an hourly or commission-based position? Again, the listing had a range and I couldn't tell if that's because the hourly varies DOE, or if it's because this is primarily a commission-based job. 4) What are the time expectations? As stated in my resume, I'm starting college very soon so am looking primarily for part-time (20-30 hours) work. once the time for the interview came and my questions were left unanswered, I sent another email stating "I was hoping to get some responses to my preliminary questions before we got started with the Zoom chat (just to make sure we're all on the same page). Since I haven't, could we please reschedule the interview? Not trying to be difficult or a Diva, just want to make sure that I'm being respectful and not taking up your valuable time if you're looking for something that doesn't fit my goals/availability for this opportunity. Thanks so much; I look forward to hearing from you." 45 minutes later, I got a response from Angela saying that, though she wished me luck, she would not be able to reschedule my interview, and that all my questions would have been answered during the interview. These are some significant red flags in a company. And though I truly don't wish to burn bridges or cause problems, I would not recommend this company to another person. I am grateful for the opportunity they gave me, and the interview practice that I received through those video submissions.
