My interview process was incredibly smooth and well-organized from start to finish. Communication was clear at every step. I always knew what to expect next and when. The recruiters were responsive, friendly, and made the entire experience feel personal and human.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Oddball in Jul 2024
Interview
I really appreciated the speed with which Oddball conducted its interview process. Seems that other places regularly put candidates through seven interviews and a take-home over the course of a monthlong gauntlet, but not Oddball.
First round: A 15-minute phone call with an HR person to learn if the project Oddball was on was interesting to me. It was!
Second round: A 45-minute qualitative technical interview with two members of the engineering team. I was not asked to write any code in this interview. Instead, the interviewers asked me direct questions about the frameworks and experiences on my resume. Very refreshing to have an interview where the people asking me questions are not assuming the words on the paper in front of them are lies!
Third round: A 90-minute pair-programming session. I would describe my interviewer as "friendly" and "helpful," rather than my typical 2024 keywords of "aloof" and "openly hostile." I found the problem to be very easy, and I appreciated that I was able to solve it using the same tools and languages I'd use in my day-to-day work. For an hour and a half I forgot what LeetCode even was.
Fourth round: I did not have to do this, as the person with whom I was scheduled to interview was the same person who referred me to begin with. My understanding is that this round is typically fairly informal.
