      Director of Marketing Interview

      6 Jul 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hamburg
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Ohly (Hamburg) in Jun 2022

      Interview

Interview by video, which went well and since I was visiting Europe they invited me onsite. I had to complete 2 assessments (one capabilities and one personality based) before arriving so while on vacation I rushed to complete both. I arrived after much effort and they sat me at a round table with an hr lead and the managing director sat behind a desk and they both just grilled me. After saying many times the personality assessment was subjective and there was no right or wrong answer, they literally attacked me on every question - why is customer service not important to me (which I never said), why don’t i take deadlines seriously (also never said). I don’t think they understand how their own test works, since they are comparison questions (example, Do you care more about people on your team or customer service). Then the director insisted I go to the whiteboard for a sample scenario clearly not pleased with my capabilities assessment results. He kept interrupting me if I got to the answer different than he did (i.e. lots of ways at a math problem). Anyway, it was awful. They made me so uncomfortable and I wondered why did I waste my time to come here. If it’s all about the assessments and you don’t like my responses for the subjective test and you think I’m too dumb for the objective one, don’t waste my time and make me come to Germany to basically give me more of your weird quizzes. No questions were asked about the job, how I would do this or that for the role. Just a straight up SAT test and personality test except they don’t consider a response subjectively - they clearly think there is a right and wrong answer to the personality assessment. They then didn’t offer me lunch and just led me to the gate after a brief outdoor tour of the plant. I’ve never heard of the company before interviewing there. It’s a small company without a lot of exciting products, just yeast extracts they are trying to get into new markets. That evening I told them to withdraw me from candidacy and I had no interest in proceeding after what I felt was a very strange interview process. If nothing else, it Reinvigorated my support of my own company (a large multinational cpg) which I thought I was ready to leave. After a couple weeks they did did at least reimburse me the travel expenses.
